About the partner

The Cyprus Phassouri Plantations is the biggest plantation in Cyprus consisting of about 560 ha of land. CPPC cultivates, produces, packs and exports citrus. They have lemons, grapefruits, oranges and mandarins while the majority of rootstocks that are used is Bitter Orange and also FA5, Troyer, Carrizo.

The farm is located in the Phasouri area, near Akrotiri Salt Lake (11 km west from Limassol city) and represents the majority of irrigated cropland in Polemidia catchment. The topography is characterised as a flat surface (10 m.a.s.l) and the environment as semi-arid, with an average annual precipitation of 370 mm. Different varieties of citrus are cultivated. The groundwater of the site is saline due to sea water intrusion, as a result of the upstream Kouris and Polemidia dam constructions and past groundwater overexploitation. The soil is clay loam, and it is degraded due to high salt contents. The vast majority citrus trees are irrigated with treated sewage water.
