GEORGIA 3rd Plenary Meeting in Limassol, Cyprus: Advancing Water Management for Resilient Farming Together

Last week, the GEORGIA project partners convened in Limassol, Cyprus, for the 3rd Plenary Meeting, an inspiring two-day event hosted with exceptional organisation and hospitality by The Cyprus Phassouri Plantations, ERATOSTHENES Centre of Excellence, and the Cyprus University of Technology. The meeting marked a key milestone in the project’s journey, strengthening collaboration among partners and charting the course for the next phase of activities dedicated to sustainable and water-efficient farming.

One of the event’s highlights was a field visit to Phassouri Plantations’ packaging facilities and farm, where partners witnessed sustainability and innovation in practice. Phassouri Plantations, a leading agricultural producer in Cyprus, has made substantial investments in environmentally responsible practices that fully align with GEORGIA’s vision. The company is actively transitioning towards sustainable cultivation methods, with a focus on soil health, nutrient assimilation, fruit quality, and integrated disease management.

During the visit, participants explored how the company employs precision irrigation systems, digital monitoring tools, and Integrated Pest Management (IPM) approaches, including the use of biological pest control through natural predators — reducing chemical inputs and protecting biodiversity. These initiatives, combined with efforts in recycling, re-use of materials, and landscape conservation, offered partners a tangible example of how innovation, technology, and sustainability can converge to achieve long-term agricultural resilience.

The plenary sessions were equally dynamic and engaging. Partners exchanged insightful presentations, lively discussions, and constructive feedback, fostering a strong collaborative spirit throughout the two days. Significant progress was made in aligning on pilot activities, refining project objectives, and shaping a clear mission for the next steps of GEORGIA’s implementation. The sessions provided a valuable platform to share experiences, explore synergies, and collectively strengthen the project’s vision of transforming water management for resilient farming.

Overall, the meeting proved to be highly productive and inspiring for all participants, reinforcing the consortium’s shared commitment to developing innovative solutions for sustainable water use and climate-smart agriculture across Europe.

A heartfelt thank you goes to our Cypriot partners for their outstanding organisation and warm hospitality, and to all GEORGIA partners whose dedication, enthusiasm, and collaboration continue to drive the project’s success and impact.
